Instagram Tests an Option to Extend Stories for 7 Days

Lately: A New Experience for Instagram Stories

Since their introduction in 2016, Stories have become a favorite among Instagram users for sharing moments of their lives. Initially, this ephemeral format was only available for 24 hours on the platform. However, Instagram is now exploring new ways to make these contents accessible for a longer period.

To this end, the platform is testing a new Story format called "Lately." This option adds, next to the Highlights, a Story that displays your latest Stories for a duration of 7 days. Essentially, this means that your 24-hour Stories can now be viewed for a week before being archived.

As shown in the screenshots from leaker Hammod Oh, this new Story format can be enabled or disabled. Additionally, you can remove one or more Stories from the selection if necessary.

This new feature would allow Instagram to capitalize more on Stories, giving creators more time to produce content and providing an alternative to the Highlights. It should be noted that the option is currently in the testing phase for a limited number of creators.
