Google introduces Circle to Search and multi-search for Android, enhancing search without leaving apps. Circle to Search allows circling, highlighting, or scribbling on items for instant search, while multi-search combines text and image queries using AI.
Google is rolling out two significant updates to enhance the search experience on Android: Circle to Search and multi-search. Let's delve into what these new features entail.
Google's latest feature, Circle to Search, is initially available only on Android smartphones. This new search method allows users to search for anything on their Android phone without switching apps. Users can select an item on a web page, an image, or a video to get information about it. There are several ways to activate this feature: circling an item, highlighting it, tapping on it, or even scribbling on it. For instance, if you're watching a video and want to know more about a piece of clothing someone is wearing, you can activate Circle to Search by long-pressing the home button or navigation bar on your smartphone, circle the item of interest, and initiate the search without leaving the page or app.
In addition to Circle to Search, Google is introducing multi-search. This feature allows users to search using both text and images simultaneously, leveraging AI to provide the most relevant results. For example, users can circle an item like a corn dog in a social media post and associate it with a question like "Why are corn dogs so popular?" Google will then provide an accurate response, all without the need to leave the app from which the search was initiated.
Circle to Search and multi-search are set to launch on January 31, 2024, initially on select high-end Android smartphones, including the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, and the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series. These features will be available in all languages and countries where these devices are sold.
